Whiton Elementary School

Principal's Message

Welcome to Whiton Elementary School!

A woman with short gray hair smiles at the camera, wearing a red and white patterned shirt, with a calm body of water and trees in the background.     A man in a light blue polo shirt smiles at the camera with a lake and fountain behind him.

Whiton Elementary School, built in 1997, serves the needs of students in pre-kindergarten through third grade. Our educational program is designed to provide students with a strong foundation of knowledge and skills upon which they can build future learning. Students engage in developmentally and age-appropriate curriculum that provides meaningful opportunities for success, exploration, and discovery.

As educators of our youngest learners, we are committed to supporting the whole child. We recognize that a child’s intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development are all essential components of their educational experience. Each day, we strive to create a nurturing and supportive environment where students can develop confidence, independence, relationships, communication skills, and a positive sense of themselves as learners.

For our youngest students in particular, play is an important part of learning and development. Through purposeful and age-appropriate play, children have opportunities to explore, imagine, create, problem-solve, communicate, collaborate with peers, and develop self-regulation skills. Play allows students to practice important social and emotional skills in authentic ways while fostering curiosity, creativity, and a love of learning.

Whiton Elementary recognizes our responsibility to ensure that each child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive. To facilitate this learning, students engage in differentiated instruction within the classroom and, when needed, have opportunities for additional academic support through enrichment, supplemental instruction, and/or programs provided by our Student Services department. At the same time, we recognize that student growth extends beyond academic achievement and includes the development of social-emotional skills, physical well-being, and positive relationships.

Whiton has a dedicated teaching staff who work diligently to help every student become the best learner and individual they can be. Our goal is to prepare students to become critical readers, intuitive mathematicians, creative writers, insightful thinkers, confident communicators, and compassionate members of their school community. Through a balance of rigorous instruction, meaningful relationships, purposeful play, and opportunities for exploration, we strive to ensure that every child feels supported, valued, and excited to learn.
